Driving Assistant Professional actively supports you in road traffic and is there for you in an emergency. It is intelligently at your fingertips, keeping you in your lane, accelerating, braking and paying attention to the distance to vehicles in front. It does this automatically in traffic jams, and even helps when merging onto the motorway. All you have to do is use the turn signal.

RETHINKING DESIGN WITH THE BMW iX.

BMW iX i20 2021 electric SUV BMW iX xDrive50 Aventurin Red side view exterior
Generously proportioned surfaces and characteristic lines give the BMW iX its uniquely monolithic shape. Every detail blends seamlessly into the modern design language and gives the vehicle an appearance of being created from a single mould. The aerodynamic design of the panels was decisive in achieving the outstanding cd value of 0.25, along with specific features, such as the window outline that tapers towards the rear, known as the "Streamflow". For the first time, flush handles and frameless doors appear on a BMW SAV – revealing its pioneering spirit.

BMW iX SHY TECH CONCEPT.

BMW iX i20 2021 electric SUV BMW iX xDrive50 Aventurin Red front view BMW kidney Shy Tech

The Shy Tech concept focuses on the passengers and allows the modern technology in the BMW iX to blend into the background until needed or explicitly desired. This invisible intelligence can be experienced in many details of the exterior and interior – such as the kidney grille, which functions as an intelligent surface and houses camera technology, radar functions, state-of-the-art sensor technology and heating elements. Other examples include the invisibly embedded speakers of the audio system and the minimalist button design for the interior.

EXTERIOR DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BMW iX.

BMW iX electric SUV Aventurin Red i20 front view

Front design.

The front of the BMW iX has been reinterpreted in a futuristic style. The vertically aligned BMW kidney grille particularly highlights the progressive appearance of the SAV, in combination with the narrowest twin headlights ever produced by BMW for standard production vehicles.

The generously proportioned rectangular contours around the wheel arches consciously focus attention on the wheels. The flush door handles, the frameless doors and the window outline, known as the “Streamflow”, that tapers towards the rear are all harmoniously integrated into the appearance.

Rear design.

Large surfaces, the narrowest rear lights of the BMW Group, and a seamlessly integrated tailgate produce a modern presence. The large diffuser elements optimise aerodynamics and, together with the flat underbody, improve range.

LIVING SPACE ON WHEELS.

BMW iX i20 2021 electric SUV interior Suite leather Castanea
The interior of the BMW iX is a unique place to unwind with an architecture inspired by modern interior design. Its elements – such as the flat dashboard with the large BMW Curved Display and the slim seats – all resemble pieces of furniture with their high-quality choice of colours and materials. The free-standing floating centre console, the absence of a centre tunnel and the largest Panorama glass roof ever installed in a BMW create an impressive feeling of space that invites you to linger.

INTERIOR DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BMW iX.

Minimalist interior design.

Minimalist interior design.

The interior design is modern and pared down to the essentials – a focus which can be noted in the displays and controls. As the central control element, the glassy iDrive Controller on the centre console is framed by an elegant control panel made of FSC-certified wood.

Lounge seats in the rear.

Thanks to the absence of the central tunnel, the BMW iX offers a spacious lounge atmosphere for the rear passengers. Additional options for the rear seats include heating and 3D loudspeakers integrated into the headrests. The rear seat backrest splits in a 40 : 20 : 40 ratio to extend the capacity of the luggage compartment.

Panorama glass roof.

Ambient light floods the interior through the Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof. It changes from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button. Ultraviolet radiation and heat are thus kept outside. Without the usual sliding headliner, you also enjoy more headroom.

BMW Curved Display.

The BMW Curved Display, installed for the first time in a production vehicle, serves as the central display and control element for the fully digital stage of the BMW iX. The 12.3″ information display merges with the 14.9″ Control Display to form a single unit and creates the impression of a free-floating picture frame on the instrument panel.[3]

    BMW iX xDrive40:
Energy consumption in kWh/100 km (combined): 21.1-19.3
Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 0
    CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 0

    BMW iX xDrive50:
Power consumption in kWh/100 km (combined): 21.6-20.0
Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 0
    CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 0

The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model.

The CO2 efficiency specifications are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the European Regulation in its current version applicable. The values shown are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle for the classification.

When charging times are shown they can be affected by a number of factors such as type of charger, voltage supplied to the charger/car and type of current (AC or DC) supplied to the charger/car. The car also plays a role in charging times as it can be set by the driver to accept various different amperage and should preconditioning be used to heat or cool the vehicle while charging this will also affect the charging time.

The basis for the calculation of the charging times for 100 km range is the electric consumption of the vehicle based on the use of a high-Powered Charging station (HPC) or charging type and current as indicted in the literature above. The testing procedure measures are based on a 23 degrees Celsius battery start and ambient temperature with certification values excluding additional auxiliary consuming devices and systems within the vehicle such as seat heating, displays, air conditioning.

Individual consumption (fuel economy) may differ due to driving profile, vehicle load profile, auxiliary consumer usage, temperature, and ambient conditions. Consumption is based on WLTP or NEDC (whichever is indicated) best case conditions and is independently tested for BMW Group. If you are comparing this range with other models or brands make sure they are stating the same WLTP or NEDC testing regime. These results can be used to compare vehicles on a close to “like for like” basis but are unlikely to be achieved in real world conditions for reasons including temperature variation, driving conditions and the use of the auxiliary systems referred to above.

Information provided and images displayed on this site include overseas models and may show some features not available in New Zealand. Please contact an authorised BMW dealer for specific information on vehicles and features available in New Zealand. Product changes may have been made since production of this content.

Note: To obtain NZ CO2 figures for vehicles imported by BMW Group NZ in relation to the NZ Clean Car discount or “FeeBate” you will need to contact your preferred dealer. The Clean Car discount figures sourced from your dealer will differ from those listed in the BMW owner’s handbook and reported figures as they have been converted by the NZ government to WLTP3 from figures derived through one of the following testing procedures: WLTP4 or NEDC or Japanese JC08 mode or Japanese 10-15 mode or CAFE test cycle.

For all vehicles not imported by BMW NZ (Used vehicle imports) you will need to contact the source market for these CO2 figures as BMW Group NZ has no access to and cannot source this CO2 data.

Official data for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, power consumption and electric range was determined in accordance with the prescribed measuring procedure and corresponds to European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the applicable version. For ranges, data determined as per WLTP takes into account any optional equipment (available on the German market in this case). For vehicles that have been newly type approved since 1 January 2021, only the official data according to WLTP exists. In addition, NEDC values are deleted from the certificates of conformity as of 1 January 2023 by EC regulation 2022/195.
