The pressure details for the approved tyre sizes can be found on the B pillar when the driver’s door is open. Depending on the vehicle and year of manufacture, an electronic tyre pressure sign is used at BMW. The tyre pressure sign affixed there is supplemented by an additional user menu and is shown in the Central Information Display (CID).

When and how often should I check my tyre pressure?

Correct tyre pressure determines the service life of the tyres, driving safety, ride comfort and also fuel consumption. This is why we recommend checking the tyre pressure and adjusting it as necessary at least twice per month and before setting off on a lengthy journey. THIS IS WHERE THE JOURNEY BEGINS.

We don’t want to reinvent the wheel. We want to perfect it. This is the idea behind every single Original BMW wheel. The wheel undergoes an elaborate manufacturing process and is subject to our stringent durability criteria. Accordingly, it meets threshold values that far exceed the legal requirements for dynamics, statics and simulation tests. The result is a wheel of supreme quality on which you can rely in every situation – elegant in its styling and uncompromising in its substance.

Casting.

Original BMW Wheels are cast from molten aluminium. The liquid metal is filled into a mold where it cools before it is removed, strictly monitored by the latest computer technology which guarantees the high quality of our wheels. This casting process reduces costs and allows a high degree of precision and freedom of design. Cast wheels are low in weight and high in stiffness.

Forging and Milling.

In the forging process, the wheel is forged from the solid piece of aluminum. The high-end option is to mill the entire spoke design after forging the base material. Forged aluminium wheels are 10 to 20 per cent lighter in weight than aluminium cast wheels and allow a more delicate design of the spokes.

Flow forming.

Flow-forming is a pressure shaping process. While the cast wheel is spinning, pressure is exerted on the inner barrel. This process stretches and compresses the aluminium. It thus leads to an increase in tensile strength, which makes it possible to achieve particularly low wall thickness values for the rim. The result is an especially light and stable wheel. It offers distinct advantages in terms of impact resistance, elongational strain and load-bearing capacity.

Undercutting.

This process is employed for both forged and cast wheels. Parts of the wheel with no relevance to the strength are reduced by machining the material from the spokes. And the weight of the wheel is further reduced. Undercutting between the spoke connection and the rim well base achieves additional high-quality style elements with a 3D appearance in the rim design.

Surface Design.

Regardless of the manufacturing technology, the surface of the Original BMW light alloy wheels can be processed in a large number of different ways. The basic process of powder coating gives the wheel resistance to environmental factors such as corrosive de-icing road salt. In the past, light alloy wheels were often marketed with silver paintwork and sealed with a transparent varnish. Today, there are numerous designs and refinements in the BMW portfolio, which require a sophisticated finishing process.

Original BMW light alloy wheels are fitted with innovative tyres. They have integrated noise damping. A foam layer on the inner surface of the tyre absorbs driving noises caused by resonance vibrations in the hollow chamber of the tyre. This reduces the noise level perceived in the interior of the vehicle and noticeably increases acoustic comfort.

Aerodynamically optimised light alloy wheels reduce the weight and lower drag resistance. As a result, your BMW drives more efficiently. The largely closed surfaces effectively reduce air turbulence around the wheels.

BMW DIGITAL TYRE DIAGNOSIS.

BMW digital tyre diagnosis delvers an intelligent calculation of the tyre condition (requires Original BMW tyres with star marking). The sensors in the system forward the data on tyre pressure, temperature and tyre speed in order to predict the life span for each individual wheel. This information is then shown in the Control Display and in the BMW App. This supplements the tyre pressure control system by detecting any indications of tyre damage and slow pressure loss, thus minimising the risk of punctures.

THE EU TYRE LABEL YOU CAN RELY ON.

All tyres sold in the EU have a label that ensures compliance with EU standards (from A to E, A means best). This makes it easier for you to compare performance when buying new tyres. FUEL EFFICIENCY: The better the performance class, the lower are rolling resistance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. WET GRIP: The better the wet grip, the shorter the braking distance. NOISE EMISSION: The external noise relates to the noise produced by the tyre when a car passes by and is measured in dB (decibels). Noise classes range from A (less noise outside the vehicle) to B (more noise).

The grip and handling of your tyres depend to a large extent on the depth of tread. BMW recommends a tread depth of 3 mm for summer tyres and 4 mm for winter tyres. Official figures for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, electricity consumption and electric range were determined in accordance with the prescribed measurement procedure and comply with Regulation (EU) 715/2007 as amended. WLTP figures take into account any optional equipment in the case of ranges. For vehicles newly type-approved since 01.01.2021, the official specifications exist only according to WLTP. FUEL CONSUMPTION AND CO2 EMISSIONS.

BMW i4 M50:
Energy consumption, combined WLTP in kWh/100 km: 22.5–18.0;
Electric range, WLTP in km: 415–520

The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model.

The CO2 efficiency specifications are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the European Regulation in its current version applicable. The values shown are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle for the classification.

When charging times are shown they can be affected by a number of factors such as type of charger, voltage supplied to the charger/car and type of current (AC or DC) supplied to the charger/car. The car also plays a role in charging times as it can be set by the driver to accept various different amperage and should preconditioning be used to heat or cool the vehicle while charging this will also affect the charging time.

The basis for the calculation of the charging times for 100 km range is the electric consumption of the vehicle based on the use of a high-Powered Charging station (HPC) or charging type and current as indicted in the literature above. The testing procedure measures are based on a 23 degrees Celsius battery start and ambient temperature with certification values excluding additional auxiliary consuming devices and systems within the vehicle such as seat heating, displays, air conditioning.

Individual consumption (fuel economy) may differ due to driving profile, vehicle load profile, auxiliary consumer usage, temperature, and ambient conditions. Consumption is based on WLTP or NEDC (whichever is indicated) best case conditions and is independently tested for BMW Group. If you are comparing this range with other models or brands make sure they are stating the same WLTP or NEDC testing regime. These results can be used to compare vehicles on a close to “like for like” basis but are unlikely to be achieved in real world conditions for reasons including temperature variation, driving conditions and the use of the auxiliary systems referred to above.
